Creation defaults set how new content starts. You choose how content is approved, which formats Ethan creates, and the style of each format. Every new post begins with these choices, and you can still change them for any individual post.
Set up your brand voice and style first, because content is created using them. If you haven’t, see Setting Up Your Brand.
How to Get There
From the left-hand menu, click Settings to expand it, then click Creation defaults.

What’s on the Page
The page is titled Creation defaults, with the line “Defaults for new content.” It has two tabs and these controls:
- General: where you set the review process, default post types, product or offer, and channel overrides.
- Style settings: where you choose the look and settings for each content format.
- Save defaults: applies your changes. Beside it, a counter such as Unsaved changes appears, and Discard throws them away.
Step 1: Set Your General Defaults
Open the General tab. It has four sections.
Review process. “Choose when you approve content.” Select one option:
- Review each stage: you approve the writing and the media separately. The writing comes first, then the image or video is created after you approve it.
- Create automatically: skips stage approvals, so Ethan creates the content without stopping for your approval at each stage.
Default post types. “Use one format or a mix.” Choose how new content is created:
- Single format: every new post uses one format. Select it from the list: Text post, Thread, Image post, Talking head, Faceless reel, Breel, Carousel, or LinkedIn Post.
- Mix selected: new posts mix the formats you choose.
- Mix all: new posts mix all available formats.
Include your product or offer. “Add it to new content.” Turn this on to have your product or offer included in new content. It is off by default.
Channel overrides. See Step 2.
Step 2: Customize Individual Channels
Under Channel overrides, every connected channel has its own row. Each row shows the account name, the platform, the format it uses, and where that format comes from. A row that reads Workspace default uses your default post types. Click the arrow at the right of a row to give that channel a different format.
If a channel doesn’t support your default format, its row says Choose a supported format. In the example, Instagram shows this because the default is Text post. Click the row and choose a format the channel supports.
Step 3: Set Your Style for Each Format
Open the Style settings tab. Use the Content format dropdown to choose the format you want to customize. The Preview panel on the right shows how it looks, and its shape matches the format, such as square for image posts, vertical for video, and 4:5 for carousels.
Each format has its own options. Click an option to select it. A tick marks your choice.
Text post. Text posts are written in your brand voice, and the topic and brief shape each post. There are no extra style settings. Click Edit brand voice to change how your posts sound.
Thread. [Add options shown for Thread.]
Image post. Choose how your images look from two sets of options. One set covers layouts, such as Story Frame, Vintage, Niche news, Movie Poster, and Whiteboard. The other set covers visual looks, such as Realistic, Cinematic, Anime, 3D Cartoon, Comic Book, Pop Art, Fantasy Art, and Vector Portrait. Click Show all 28 styles to see every option.
Talking head.
- Style: choose Motion Explainer, Simple Caption, or Cinematic Explainer.
- Video Recording Mode: choose AI Avatar to have an avatar speak for you, or I will Record & Upload to use your own recording.
- Video & audio: see below.
Faceless reel.
- Style: choose Motion Explainer, Visual Explainer, or Cinematic Explainer.
- Voiceover Recording Mode: choose AI Voice, or I will Record & Upload to use your own voiceover.
- Video & audio: see below.
Breel.
- Style: choose Hook overlay, Hook & Subhook, Text Block, or Broll Slides.
- B-roll type: choose AI B-roll to have footage generated, or Brand B-roll to use your own.
- Text Theme: choose one of five looks for the text on screen.
- Music direction: see below.
Carousel.
- Style: choose from Editorial, Notebook, Visual Explainer, Scrapbook, Collage, or Seamless Story. Click Show all 8 styles to see them all.
- Slides: choose from 3 to 10 slides. This setting is shared by Carousel and Broll Slides, so changing it updates both formats.
LinkedIn Post. Under Writing style, choose Infographics, News & Trends, or Story. This sets the structure and approach of the writing.

Video & audio
These settings appear under Talking head and Faceless reel. Duration, captions, and AI voice apply to both formats.
- Target Duration: choose 15 seconds, 30 seconds, 45 seconds, or 60 seconds.
- Caption style: choose how spoken captions look in your reel. The default is Clean.
- Music direction: choose the kind of background music:
- Let the authoring style decide
- Prefer no background music
- Soft and understated
- Upbeat and energetic
- Cinematic

Music direction is shared by Talking head, Faceless reel, and Breel. Changing it updates all three formats.
Save Your Defaults
When you change anything, the top of the page shows Unsaved changes, or a count such as 1 unsaved change. Click the arrow beside it to see what changed.
- Click Save defaults to apply your choices.
- Click Discard to throw the changes away.
New content then starts with your choices. Content you’ve already created doesn’t change.
Change Your Brand Look
Click Brand appearance at the top right of the Style settings tab. It opens Voice and style in Brand, where you manage your brand’s voice and look. Creation defaults decide how each format starts, and your brand settings decide how it sounds and looks.
Why This Matters
Creation defaults save you from making the same choices every time you create something. Set them once, and every new post starts the way you want it, in your style, on the right channels, and with the approvals you choose.
